Mart ISD would like to welcome Melina Blood to the #PANTHERFamily! Melina is our new Accounts Payable Clerk in the administration office.
Hello, my name is Melina Blood and I am so excited to embark on this journey at Mart ISD and become a part of the panther family. The past three years I have been working at First National Bank of Central Texas as a new accounts representative and a teller. I am a recent graduate of Tarleton State University (Go Texans!) and became engaged to a Mart Alum, class of 2010. I love spending quality time with family and friends, listening to live music and almost anything outdoors.
Go Panthers!
Mart ISD would like to welcome Melanie Summers to the #PANTHERFamily! Mrs. Summers will be teaching 2nd grade Reading at Mart Elementary.
My name is Melanie Summers. I have been a paraprofessional for six years and have spent the last three years teaching in math and reading intervention while going back to school to earn my elementary and special education degrees. I grew up in Mart and currently live here with my husband and our two beautiful children, Easton 10, and Harper 6. They are the light of my life! Some of my hobbies include crafting, fishing, and spending time with my family. I am beyond excited to continue my teaching career in Second Grade at Mart!
Mart ISD would like to welcome Emily Cook to the #PANTHERFamily! Ms. Cook will be teaching Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 at Mart High School.
Hello, I'm Emily Cook. This will be my 6th year teaching math and my first year with Mart ISD. I've spent the last 5 years teaching 7th/8th grade math and Algebra so I'm super excited to be taking on a new challenge of adding in Algebra II this year. When I'm not teaching, you can catch me traveling, camping, spending time out on the lake, trying new DIY projects, or simply enjoying time with my friends and family. I couldn't be more thrilled to be joining the Panther family!
Mart ISD would like to welcome Angie Fitting to the #PANTHERFamily!
Hi, my name is Angie Fitting. I am a graduate of Baylor University and will be starting my 30th year in education this year. I have classroom experience in grades 2-6 and have also been a district dyslexia/504 coordinator. I am so excited to join the Panther family this year and get to be a little closer to home. I have been married for 29 years and have a son in law school at UT and another son who will be a senior at Robinson this year.
There's a new Panther in town! Thank you to Devin Watlington, Class of 2009, and VASA (Voices Against Substance Abuse) Waco for making this amazing mural in the new MHS gym possible!
Congratulations to the Mart High School CERT Team for being recognized at the Texas State School Safety Center Convention this week as the recipient of the Statewide Student-Led Groups and Programs award. Thank you for the important work you do for our district and community!

Good morning,
I wanted to give you an update on our situation yesterday. The sheriff's department was able to trace the threat to a 15 year old from Midlothian. He has been arrested and they are investigating why he would threaten our district. We are relieved that the threat has been detained and thankful for their quick action. If you want resources on how to help talk to your students about yesterday's events, please don't hesitate to reach out to either campus office and we will connect you with resources. Ms. Anderson, Mart ISD's representative from Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network (MHMR) is also available over the summer. Again, thank you for your quick response and cooperation yesterday.
Betsy Burnett
Superintendent
Mart ISD Families,
I want to thank all of you for your cooperation throughout today’s events. I know this was not the last day of school we all had planned, and I hate that our school year ended so abruptly. I want to thank the staff for acting quickly, yet calmly, the students who fully cooperated with every directive, the parents who quickly picked up students in an orderly fashion, Mart PD and McLennan County SO for having officers on site immediately, and La Vega ISD and Todd Gooden for lending us metal detectors for tonight's graduation ceremony. At this time, we plan on celebrating our elementary students when we return to school in the fall. Summer school and summer feeding will begin Tuesday as regularly scheduled. Have a great summer break!
Sincerely,
Betsy Burnett
Official Statement:
Classes at Mart ISD were released today at approximately 8:15am out of an abundance of caution. A threat was made against the high school through social media. Law enforcement is actively investigating the threat. The district felt that while the investigation is underway, and with student safety as a priority, it was best to dismiss classes early. This was the last scheduled day of classes for Mart ISD. At this time, graduation will still be held as planned with added security measures in place.
Betsy Burnett
Superintendent
Due to a threat of violence on our high school campus, Mart ISD is dismissing classes as of 8:15am. If your child is a car rider, please pick them up as soon as possible. Buses are running within the next 15 minutes.
All elementary awards will be made up at a later date. More information will follow.
