Carter

Many wonderful teachers have called Mart ISD home, but perhaps two of the most well known are Mrs. Stephanie Carter and Ms. Marion Burleson.  Both ladies were recognized by the Ex-Students Association Friday during Homecoming.

Ms. Marion Burleson Childs received the 47th Annual Distinguished Alumnus Award.   Marion graduated from Mart High School in 1958.   In 1962 she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor. Marion comes from a long legacy of family educators.   Her father was a Vocational Ag teacher at Mart High School and began "Mr. Bill's Barnyard" at the Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo.  Her mother taught math and Latin at Mart High School for many years.  "Mrs. B" began her own career at Mart Middle School in 1981.  She raised her 4 children in Mart, one being Mrs. Nell Kaufmann who currently teaches social studies at Mart Elementary.

Mrs. Stephanie Carter received the Honorary Distinguished Alumnus award, reserved for individuals who have contributed greatly to Mart ISD, but did not graduate from the district themselves.  Stephanie graduated from Baylor with her Bachelor’s Degree in 1974 and did her student teaching in Mart.  She has been here ever since.   Stephanie is currently in her 50th year teaching at Mart High School.  Her teaching assignments have largely consisted of advanced mathematics courses although she has also taught Latin and Yearbook.  Stephanie's work and coordination of the Academic UIL teams has been invaluable and resulted in many successful runs for the school.

Both of these educators have left esteemed legacies in the district.  We thank them for their service and are grateful they chose Mart ISD as their home!
